Disulfiram is an alcohol antagonist medication used in the management of alcohol dependence. It works by causing unpleasant physical reactions when alcohol is consumed, such as flushing, nausea, vomiting, and palpitations. This discourages the individual from drinking, serving as a behavioural deterrent. Disulfiram is most effective when combined with psychosocial support and counselling, and it requires medical supervision during use.
